Since Reece was a baby I have tried to be her number one fan. I’ve praised her for doing right and I’ve disciplined her for doing wrong. But the constant I have always tried to instill in her is that she is important.
What a word! She hears “special” a lot, but “IMPORTANT!”…I want her to know she is necessary! Her family needs her. Her friends need her. God needs her- He created her for an amazing purpose.
The same is true for you. I hope you have someone in your life that is encouraging you and reminding you how much you are loved by God. How you are valued by God. And how necessary you are to Him. But the truth is that sometimes …oftentimes, it is only you. You are in your bed crying. You are in your car worried. You are up late thinking, pacing, doubting, fearing, regretting, or just… Existing. What then?
Scripture tells you that you can build yourself up in the faith. You can keep yourself in the love of God. You can encourage yourself in The Lord. Why? Because the love He has for you is deep and real and there is nothing you can do to make Him stop loving you.
We keep looking for others to affirm us. To remind us how special we are. But when they don’t. When no one else is around, when it is just you in your darkest moments, you in your aloneness, you can be encouraged. You have been given permission through Christ to be able to look in the mirror and claim His promises by the authority of His Word.
Do you have a relationship with your Creator so that, through His Word, you know how He feels about you? Could you know the truth of your importance and worth based on the authority of the Scriptures? I am confident Reece would not believe that I adore her if I didn’t tell her or show her. Your Savior has written you a love note called the Bible. You are important!
“…Build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” – Jude 1:20-21
